hi all, i was wondering if someone encountered with this issue. New installed issabelpbx (freepbx based), when adding virtual faxes, on some of them i receive status
"Waiting for modem to come ready on ttyIAX5" and in the messages logfile:

/dev/ttyIAX5: Can not open modem (No such file or directory)
Jun 6 17:23:39 issabel FaxGetty[102156]: Unable to setup modem on /dev/ttyIAX5; giving up after 2 attempts
Jun 6 17:23:39 issabel FaxGetty[102156]: CLOSE /dev/ttyIAX5
Jun 6 17:23:39 issabel FaxQueuer[100145]: MODEM /dev/ttyIAX5 appears to be wedged
Jun 6 17:23:39 issabel FaxQueuer[100145]: MODEM WEDGED: bin/wedged "ttyIAX5" "/dev/ttyIAX5"
Jun 6 17:23:39 issabel systemd: ***@ttyIAX5.service has no holdoff time, scheduling restart.
Jun 6 17:23:39 issabel systemd: Stopped Hylafax faxgetty on ttyIAX5.
Jun 6 17:23:39 issabel systemd: Started Hylafax faxgetty on ttyIAX5.
Jun 6 17:23:39 issabel FaxGetty[102326]: OPEN /dev/ttyIAX5 HylaFAX (tm) Version 4.3.11
Jun 6 17:23:39 issabel FaxGetty[102326]: /dev/ttyIAX5: Can not open modem (No such file or directory)
Jun 6 17:23:39 issabel FaxGetty[102326]: STATE CHANGE: BASE -> MODEMWAIT (timeout 30)
Jun 6 17:23:39 issabel FaxQueuer[100145]: NOTIFY exit status: 0 (102324)

I see that after applying settings in virtual faxes or changing them, not all fax devices are being created in /dev directory, the ones that are created i can see status "Running and idle on ttyIAX6". If i'm entering a random virtual fax and just click the Apply settings button, after that randomly other faxes are getting "broken". Does anybody has a clue?

Which application is responsible for creating that device file?

iaxmodem most probably. After faxes being wedged, if i'm launching manually iaxmodem all the statuses are being changed to "Running and idle" but there is no fax tone, just calling like a regular phone, even the faxes that worked before. Until i click again on apply settings on one of the faxes.

iaxmodem most probably.
Can you please check if that application works fine?
It needs to create the device files, so HylaFax can use them.

i would appreciate an advice how to check that the application works fine. Obviously there is some bug with this, but i've found a workaround - just need to stop the iaxmodem service and start it after 10 seconds, then the faxes are connecting all just fine. And i am able to send and receive faxes, but the thing is only in the local folder, they don't relay to email. The server is sending voicemails though, but faxes no. In the logs i don't see that it even tries to send, just sending receive the fax by modem and that's it. I am starting to feel sorry that i choose issabel pbx instead of my old elastix 2.5

I have no experience with that software.
Please check the manual of the software to turn on (verbose) logging to
find the exact issue.

Maybe it is a dependency problem at the startup process.
How is the software started?

i don't understand your question, iaxmodem starts from startup like many others, the issue isn't there, the issue is when adding/changing faxes, it puts down selectively some of them. Let's suppose this issue is solved, cause i have a workaround. What i want to know is how to make the faxes go to email

Issue solved: the faxes won't send/receive to email because of permissions on fax.db. - i migrated the database from Elastix and the permissions an this specific db didn't transfer. After changing the permissions to 666 everything works like charm. Thanks you all and also this thread https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/fax-viewer.103391/
