USR Robotics USB fax-voice modem

I tried setting up Hylafax on two different Linux distros, and got the same error message when running faxstat:
Waiting for modem to come ready

How to fix it? I am trying to send faxes, not receive.
On Windows, I can send faxes without issue from this modem.

It might be wedged. Try restarting the computer, service and checking the line.
