Hi..
At our office we use some Linux Ubuntu & some Windows XP / 2000, well there is no problem with
Windows OS, because there is Winprinthylafax and working very good. But big problem with some
computers that use Linux Ubuntu.
We have 2 version of Ubuntu here: 6.06 and 7.10

I already tried Faxing through HylaFAX Server from Ubuntu 6.06, but AFAIK only can fax from Text Editor.

What i needs are can fax only from:
- OpenOffice.org (Writer & Calc)
- Text Editor
- Image Viewer from Eye of GNOME
- PDF Reader from Evince

that's all.. that's enough..

So, would you share.. how is the easiest do fax from Ubuntu with above software..
i think the easiest is there is feature to do print fax (Print to Fax).. if you know others, it's
ok.. i need much information about this.
Because employees that use Ubuntu need solution to do fax from their computer..

FYI: i can fax from those program, except openoffice.org, so i just need to convert to postscript
and then from GFax, i fax the postscript file. About openoffice, i haven't google about how to
convert the document to postscript.

The main point of question is how to implement simplicity like winprinthylafax on ubuntu? :)

Thanks for help,
Yudi

Using openoffice you may add a printer/fax device. This works quite
well.

For a general solution, there is a program, named faxfrontend, that
create a print queue using cups. Your hardcopy will faxed instead of
printed. This only works if your hylafax acceps connections without
prompting for a password.

Bye,
Giuseppe

I asked this question on Ubuntu list but never got any answer, how do
you add/install fax-printer on openoffice on Gnome Ubuntu 7.10 able to
send faxes on Hylafax server ?

There is no faxfrontend app available on apt Gutsy !?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Sam.

Ok, let share information :) you help me.. i help you :)
two days ago, i waste my night to find out how to fax from ubuntu.. searching google.

Yes, it's work! I can do fax from ubuntu..
right now i can do fax from OpenOffice, TextEditor, etc..

1. Install GFax from apt-get install gfax
2. Configure GFax with your Fax Server (HylaFAX).. I hope you know how to do it..
Ok, you can test your GFax configuration by test send a fax with Text Editor (Applications -
Accessories)
3. To make it work with openoffice, run /usr/lib/openoffice/program/spadmin (with root access), you
do sudo -i, or whatever.
4. You add fax / pdf converter from spadmin GUI, fill the command with: gfax (TMP)
5. That's it... you save the configuration
6. Try fax an openoffice document

1st time i try fax with Fax Printer, it hang..
then i tried fax with PDF Converter and set the PDF Folder, then after fax, i close the GFax and not
hang.
